DESCRIPTION:
Brassgard OD provides "Brassgard" protection to brass and brass plated parts by modifying the nitrocellulose lacquer of choice of the user. Simple admixture of Brassgard OD to the lacquer before spraying is all that is required. One part of Brassgard OD in twenty parts of lacquer at ready to spray viscosity produces the desired degree of enhanced protection to the finished brass. Significant increases in salt spray resistance and increased UV and weather resistance are easily achieved with the use of Brassgard OD. Spits due to the effect of moisture on retained cyanide in porous brass plated casting are eliminated with the use of Brassgard OD. When Brassgard OD is used along with Brassgard PLO or Brassgard CD after plating the degree of protection can be enhanced even further. In addition to modification of the nitrocellulose lacquer itself, by crosslinking hydroxyl and other active sites in the nitrocellulose, the brass itself is also directly protected. A mono-molecular layer of proprietary anti-tarnish agent is chemically bonded to the surface of the brass part.
CHEMICAL NATURE:
Brassgard OD is a proprietary reactive agent that bonds both electrically and chemically to the brass surface and at the same time having reactive sites to crosslink the nitro-cellulose in the lacquer. This gives a coating that is integral with the brass itself.
METHOD OF APPLICATION:
Brassgard OD is compatible and readily mixes with most nitrocellulose lacquers. One part Brassgard to a total of twenty parts of ready to spray or dip lacquer is prepared and applied in the same way as normal without Brassgard. Drying time, dry to touch, and any heating or cure of the coating would remain the same as usual. Brassgard OD has also been found useful in water based urethane coatings, epoxy ester and acrylic lacquers. A compatibility check should be made with non-nitrocellulose coatings before use. Brassgard can be supplied in other solvent systems to enhance performance and compatibility with special coatings.
